President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is optimistic that the country’s future state workers will emulate the performance of the 2024 Outstanding Government Workers awardees.

He said the Philippines has a bigger chance of a brighter future if the exemplary works of the awardees are duplicated by public servants of tomorrow.

“I have to say that we are all very, very impressed by the quality of the work that was exhibited by the winners,” President Marcos said during the awards rites for the 2024 Outstanding Government Workers on Wednesday.

According to the President, the quality of work and initiative exhibited by the awardees belie the general perception that a civil servant is a bit of “a drudge, not terribly imaginative, and just doing very ordinary work and mundane work.”

If government workers are determined to realize one good idea, they can make it happen, he said. There are many people who are also willing to sacrifice, volunteer, and offer help as long as they feel it is for a good cause, he added.

“Ang tanging katangian ng Pilipino ay ‘yung nagbabayanihan,” the President said.

“And that is where we need leaders such as these awardees to lead the way and to inspire people, to come and to do this work. I have always found that Filipinos by nature are helpful. Filipinos by nature love the Philippines. Filipinos by nature love Filipinos, ” he added.

The 2024 Outstanding Government Workers has three award categories: Presidential Lingkod Bayan (PLB), CSC Pagasa, and Dangal ng Bayan (DNB).

The PLB recognizes exceptional contributions resulting from an idea or performance that has a nationwide impact on public interest, security, and patrimony, while the CSC Pagasa award recognizes outstanding contributions resulting from an idea or performance that directly benefits more than one department or agency of the government.

The Dangal ng Bayan, on the other hand, recognizes the performance of an extraordinary act of public service and consistent demonstration of exemplary ethical behavior based on the eight norms of conduct for public officials and employees. (PCO)
