One of the things which can ruin our childhood is when we learn what we believe was true turns out to be a lie.
Jill Koch, senior vice president of marketing and brand management for Sanrio, which created the iconic character Hello Kitty, just dropped a bomb about the identity of the beloved cartoon on its 50th anniversary.
It turns out that Hello Kitty is not a cat, but rather is a little girl.
Koch described Hello Kitty as a tiny girl who weighs ‘three apples’ and stands five apples tall, living in the London suburbs with her twin sister Mimmy, their parents, where she even has her own pet cat named Charmmy Kitty.
Hello Kitty even has a boyfriend named Dear Daniel, and has lots of friends including Cinnamaroll, Keroppi, Purin, Kuromi, and more.
Even anthropologist Christine R. Yano had already confirmed earlier in 2014 which was a decade ago that Hello Kitty is actually a little girl.
“She’s a cartoon character, she is a little girl. She is a friend. But she is not a cat. She’s never depicted on all fours. She walks and sits like a two-legged creature,” Yano explained.
This bomb later on became a hot topic to netizens who seem to have their childhood ruined.
“So she has whiskers, ears, and is named ‘Kitty,’ but is actually human? What?” a viewer commented.
To be fair, just because Sanrio stated that Hello Kitty is a ‘little girl’, it does not automatically make her a human girl either.
But still, it seems to have a huge impact on Hello Kitty fans around the world.
