To further equip national government communicators against emerging threats, crises, and complex communication challenges, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) held a follow-up session on the “Introduction to the Grid System” on 19 November 2024, continuing a series of workshops aimed at enhancing government communication capabilities. This workshop focused on the UK Government Communication Service International (UK GCSI) Grid System, a framework designed to improve the planning and coordination of government announcements.
PCO Senior Undersecretary Emerald Ridao emphasized, “The Grid System is a game-changer for how we can communicate more effectively as a government. It empowers us to respond quickly during crises, ensuring that our communications remain consistent and collaborative.
The Grid System, which provides an overview of news and announcements scheduled on a weekly grid framework, is used by the UK Prime Minister’s Office and all UK government departments and agencies, is an essential tool for ensuring effective and coordinated communication across the government.
By streamlining messaging and centralizing coordination, the Grid System strengthens the government’s ability to respond swiftly and cohesively, especially during times of crisis. Communication frameworks such as the Grid System ensure that the Philippine government has the capacity to communicate effectively to its stakeholders, delivering key messages in a timely and efficient manner.
“The Grid will align all agencies to deliver unified, proactive messaging to the public. If executed well, it can be a seamless communication strategy that can be adapted to respond to any challenge that may arise in keeping our nation informed,” Sr. Usec. Ridao said.
This event follows the initial session held on 26 September 2024, as part of an ongoing series organized by the National Security Council (NSC), in collaboration with the UK GCSI and the British Embassy Manila. The workshops have focused on strategic communication, with special attention given to maritime security and crisis communications.
The collaboration between the NSC, PCO, and the UK GCSI reflects a commitment to exploring innovations on strategic communication within the Philippine government, aimed at addressing contemporary challenges to better inform the public. (PCO)
