John Tinniswood received the oldest living man in the world title by the GWR Adjudicator Megan Bruce (Guinness World Records)

The world mourns the loss of John Tinniswood, the Guinness World Record’s oldest living man in the world, as he passed away at the age of 112 in England.

Tinniswood, a resident of Liverpool, was recognized for his remarkable longevity and lived a life filled with wisdom and experiences.

Born on August 26, 1912, Tinniswood became the world’s oldest man in April 2024 after the death of Venezuelan Juan Vicente Perez. Throughout his life, he witnessed significant historical events, including both World Wars and advancements in technology.

He served in the Royal Army Pay Corps during World War II and was known for his love of Liverpool Football Club.

Tinniswood attributed his long life to a positive outlook and a strong sense of family. He has a wife, a daughter, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

“John had many fine qualities. He was intelligent, decisive, brave, calm in any crisis, talented at maths and a great conversationalist,” his family said.

Besides eating his favorite dish which is battered fish and chips every Friday, he followed no special diet. Tinniswood stayed mentally active, handling his own finances and keeping up with the news, which may have contributed to his longevity, Guinness World Records said.

When GWR recognized John Tinniswood as the world’s oldest man in April of this year, he remarked that there was no great secret to his long life, insisting it was “just luck”.

“You either live long or you live short, and you can’t do much about it,” he said.

His death has sparked tributes around the globe, with many remembering him not only for his age but for his vibrant spirit and contributions to society. As the world reflects on Tinniswood’s extraordinary life, he leaves behind a message of hope, resilience, and the value of human connections.
