Ipinag-utos ni Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla ang pagde-deploy ng mahigit 50,000 na pulis ng Philippine National Police (PNP) sa isasagawang kilos-protesta sa EDSA at Luneta sa darating na Setyembre 21.
Ayon kay Remulla, tututok ang mga pulis sa visibility patrols, standby units, traffic assistance, checkpoints at border control.
“The PNP will make sure there is no trouble. The PNP will not suppress them. The PNP will not stop them in any way, and we will make sure it is just a peaceful rally,” saad ng kalihim.
Inaasahan ang libu-libong raliyista na sasama sa dalawang hiwalay na protesta upang ipanawagan ang pananagutan ng mga sangkot sa umano’y katiwalian sa flood control projects sa bansa.
Binigyang-diin din ng kalihim ang suporta ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa pagkilos ng taumbayan basta’t may kaukulang permit.
“There is no opposition on the Palace’s part to granting any permits. In fact, they will assist them. The President is one with them, and it is a different case that happened in the other countries,” dagdag niya.
Gayunpaman, nanawagan pa rin si Remulla ng mapayapang pagpapahayag ng hinaing at pagkadismaya laban sa mga tiwaling opisyal. – VC
