The latest Pulse Asia survey results showing favorable ratings for the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) as an effective tool in helping persons with disabilities serves as an inspiration for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to further improve its programs and services for the vulnerable sector.

Based on the Ulat ng Bayan Survey conducted by the Pulse Asia Research Inc. from September 27 to 30 this year, 88 percent of Filipino adults support the DSWD’s livelihood initiatives under the SLP for persons with disabilities.

DSWD spokesperson Asst. Secretary Irene Dumlao welcomed the survey results, emphasizing that the strong public trust in the SLP and other DSWD programs reflects the Department’s commitment to good governance under the leadership of Secretary Rex Gatchalian.

Secretary Dumlao said on Monday (December 8)

Asst. Secretary Dumlao pointed out that the intensified efforts of the DSWD for persons with disabilities is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to ensure that no sector is left behind in development.

The Pulse Asia survey showed that the percentage of Filipinos who believe in the effectiveness of livelihood support for persons with disabilities ranges from 79% to 96% across geographic areas, and from 88% to 90% across socioeconomic classes nationwide.

“One of the priority sectors of the DSWD are those in the vulnerable sectors, including the persons with disabilities. We will treat this survey as our inspiration para mas pagbutihin pa ang mga programang makatutulong para mapadali ang pang araw-araw na buhay ng ating mga kababayan katulad na lamang nitong livelihood support para sa ating mga persons with disabilities,” Asst. Secretary Dumlao said.

The DSWD spokesperson encouraged the continued support and trust of the Filipino public in the programs and services of the DSWD, as this will help strengthen a stable, efficient, and responsive system of governance.

The Pulse Asia survey is a research initiative that measures public opinion on a wide range of socio-economic, political, and cultural issues through quantitative and qualitative methods.

Its quarterly Ulat ng Bayan survey gathers data from a representative sample of 1,200 adult Filipinos to assess their views on key national issues, including government programs to address poverty and hunger. (KB)
