President Ferdinand R. Marcos has ordered concerned agencies to make sure locations of evacuation centers are safe from floods and landslides.

This was the latest directive of the President, Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Administrator Ariel Nepomuceno reported on Saturday.

“Kahapon (Friday) doon sa pagpupulong na nandoon si Pangulong Bongbong Marcos sa opisina ng Office of Civil Defense, ang tanong niya nga at utos: siguraduhin naman na ang evacuation centers ay nasa lugar na siyang hindi mapipinsala o tatamaan ng baha o ng landslide,” Nepomuceno said in a news forum in Quezon City.

Nepomuceno stressed the need to initiate inventory of existing evacuation centers, including school buildings converted to temporary shelters for calamity-hit families.

He said evacuation centers that are yet to be built should have minimized hazard risks.

“Iyong mga bagong itatayong evacuation centers ay dapat sumunod na doon sa pag-iwas doon sa mga landslide-prone areas; storm surge prone areas; or flood-prone areas,” he said.

President Marcos led a situation briefing at the OCD headquarters in Quezon City on Friday. He ordered to move all families living in coastal areas to higher ground ahead of Typhoon Pepito.

The super typhoon is expected to bring storm surges. (PND)
