Ikinagulat at ikinadismaya ng Department of Justice (DOJ) ang desisyon ng Court of Appeals ng Timor-Leste na i-deny ang ‘extradition’ ni Arnolfo ‘Arnie’ Teves Jr., taliwas sa naunang pagpayag nito na ibabalik na sa Pilipinas ang dating kongresista ng Negros Oriental 3rd District.
“The Department of Justice (DOJ) is surprised and disappointed by the Timor-Leste Court of Appeal’s adverse ruling on the extradition of Mr. Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr., reversing its previous decisions in favor of extradition,” pahayag ng DOJ
Humihingi ngayon ang ahensya ng paglilinaw mula sa Court of Appeals ng Timor-Leste kasunod ng hindi inaasahang pagbabago sa desisyon nito.
“The DOJ is seeking clarification on this unexpected shift and reaffirms its commitment to bringing Mr. Teves, who faces serious charges, back to the Philippines to face justice,” dagdag ng ahensya.
Sa kabila nito ay tiniyak naman ng DOJ na nananatili ang kanilang hakbangin upang maibalik sa bansa si Teves na nahaharap sa mga kaso.
“The government will explore all legal options to ensure accountability and uphold international cooperation in this matter. Updates will follow once the official decision is received,” pagtitiyak ng DOJ
