In compliance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to implement preemptive measures for Super Typhoon Pepito and following the advisory of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Sariaya local government in Quezon province ordered the temporary closure of Lagnas Bridge at 12 midnight on November 16.

The Sariaya Provincial Information Office said the bridge’s temporary closure was prompted by due damage signs assessed on its foundations following the impact caused by previous typhoons.

The bridge, which is part of the Maharlika Highway that serves as the main route between the National Capital Region and the rest of Southern Luzon, needs to be repaired to ensure commuters’ safety.

The local government of Quezon province, on the other hand, reported 151 families or over 2,000 individuals are in six evacuation centers in Sariaya following the preventive evacuation. (PND)
