United States Vice President Kamala Harris conceded her Presidential race to Donald Trump, concluding the 2024 U.S. elections.
In her concession speech at Howard University on Thursday, November 7 (Philippine Time), the outgoing Vice President addressed her supporters urging them to continue the campaign’s advocacy and carry on with the goals.
She also reiterated the importance of values central to her campaign, aiming to keep the momentum of her progressive platform alive.
“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that fueled this campaign—the fight: the fight for freedom, for opportunity, for fairness, and the dignity of all people. A fight for the ideals at the heart of our nation, the ideals that reflect America at our best. That is a fight I will never give up,” Harris stated.
On the other hand, Harris informed that she already spoke to President-elect Trump, congratulating him and assured that they will help their team for a peaceful transition.
“I spoke with President-elect Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I also told him that we will help him and his team with their transition and that we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power,” she added.
Despite strong support from progressive coalitions, Harris fell short in key battleground states, particularly in economically distressed regions where Trump’s promises of economic revival resonated.
Trump won the presidential race with 295 electoral votes, while Harris was able to receive 226 electoral votes. – AL
