The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) represented the Philippines at the 2025 Asia Video Industry Association (AVIA) Conference on December 2 in Singapore, participating in high-level discussions on emerging policies and trends shaping the global video and digital content landscape.

Led by MTRCB Chairperson and CEO Lala Sotto, the Philippine delegation included MTRCB Board Members Joey Alberto V and Atty. Jojo Salomon, and Legal Affairs Division Chief, Anna Farinah Mindalano.

Sotto also attended the AVIA Policy Roundtable, a closed-door session gathering regulators, legal and policy experts and industry leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region.

The roundtable focused on the latest developments, emerging challenges and regulatory policies shaping today’s rapidly evolving video and digital content landscape.

Sotto showcased the efforts and initiatives of the MTRCB and the Philippine government to push for responsible viewing and media literacy among Filipino families. These efforts gained global recognition from various countries.

During the discussions, several Asian regulatory bodies expressed interest in the Philippines’ content classification practices, including the Indonesia Broadcasting Commission (Komisi Penyiaran Indonesia or KPI) and Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), a statutory board under the Ministry of Digital Development and Information.

“I am grateful to have advanced Responsableng Panonood, showcased our Movie and Television Rating and Classification System, and heard from regulators in other countries who expressed interest in applying the program,” said Sotto.

KPI wished to consult with the MTRCB regarding the Philippines’ successful rating and classification system.

MTRCB also reported that several counterparts from other countries have taken strong interest in the MTRCB’s Responsableng Panonood program, with some considering adopting a similar initiative in their jurisdiction.

“We are very happy for the positive recognition from our Asian counterparts and other countries,” said Sotto. “Their support affirms the Philippines’ commitment to providing age-appropriate ratings while fostering the growth of the industry we love and serve.”
