Nagpaabot ng pasasalamat ang ilang pinuno ng House of Representatives para kay Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. sa paggalang nito sa ‘constitutional mandate’ ng Kongreso na i-proseso ang impeachment complaint laban kay Vice President Sara Duterte.
Kabilang dito sina Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales Jr., Deputy Speaker David “Jay-Jay” Suarez, at House Majority Leader Manuel Jose “Mannix” M. Dalipe.
Pinabulaanan ng house leaders ang paratang na mayroong kinalaman ang Pangulo sa desisyon ng Kamara na aprubahan ang impeachment complaint sa Bise Presidente habang nilinaw na sumusunod lamang sila sa batas.
“The Constitution is clear—once a complaint is filed, Congress cannot simply ignore it. We follow the law, not personal agendas,” saad ni Gonzales.
“The notion that nothing moves in Congress without the President’s approval is pure fiction,” dagdag ni Dalipe.
Binigyang-diin naman ni Suarez na hindi itinulak ng mga kaalyado ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. ang nasabing impeachment kundi ang mga grupo sa labas ng koalisyon.
“The President discouraged impeachment because the country has bigger priorities. But three complaints were filed—not by us. The moment they reached Congress, we had no choice but to proceed,” paliwanag ni Suarez.
Ipinagtanggol din ng mga pinuno ng Kamara si Ilocos Norte 1st District Rep. Sandro Marcos na binabatikos sa pagiging una sa listahan ng mga pumirma sa impeachment complaint.
“This isn’t about who signed first or last. Every congressman has a duty to act, and Congressman Sandro Marcos did what any lawmaker would do in this situation,” pagbibigay-diin ni Suarez.
Sa kabila ng mga isyu, tiniyak naman ni Suarez na nananatiling nakatutok ang mababang kapulungan sa pagsulong ng economic recovery, social program at national security sa bansa.
“The impeachment process will not derail our work. The House will continue prioritizing the nation’s urgent needs,” ani Suarez. – VC
