Malacañang on Friday extended its condolences to the family of former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral, who was declared dead after falling into a ravine along Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet on Thursday night.
“Nakikiramay po tayo sa pamilya na naiwan ni former Usec. Catalina Cabral. Nakakalungkot po ang nangyari (We extend our condolences to the family left behind by former Undersecretary Catalina Cabral. What happened is truly saddening),” Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said during a press briefing.
Cabral was among the DPWH officials earlier implicated in issues surrounding flood control projects.
Castro said there is no directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to conduct an investigation into Cabral’s death, noting that the Chief Executive respects the family’s privacy as they mourn her sudden passing.
She also clarified that Cabral was not facing any criminal charges at the time of her death.
“Iginagalang po muna natin ang pribadong buhay at ang pamilya ni Usec. Cabral. Sa ngayon, wala pong ipinag-uutos ang Pangulo at muli, wala pong kaso (We are respecting the private life of Undersecretary Cabral and her family. At present, the President has given no directive, and again, there is no case),” Castro said.
Castro added that Malacañang will allow the proper authorities to handle any investigation related to Cabral’s death. – IP
