President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday assured local government units (LGUs) and victims of Severe Tropical Storm Kristine that the government is working around-the-clock to ensure the timely delivery of relief and assistance.
“We, in the national government, are working around-the-clock to provide all the assistance needed by our LGUs and our people affected by this storm,” the President said during the 2024 Galing Pook Awards event in Malacañang.
In his speech, President Marcos lamented the unprecedented recurrence of severe weather disturbances affecting many lives.
“Unfortunately, Kristine is just a sample of how powerful and how more frequent these storms and cyclones have become. What used to be a one-in-a hundred-year occurrence is now happening with much greater frequency and ferocity, due to climate change,” he said.
The President also extended sympathies to the victims. “I would like to express my sympathy for our fellow Filipinos who have become victims of Tropical Storm Kristine.”
He also commended the LGUs for displaying their leadership and employing proactive measures to help their constituents.
“We are grateful for the resilience, leadership, and proactive measures undertaken by our local government units, which have saved many, many lives,” the President said.
“Being first responders, the local government units are those entities that we count on for that very first response. And they have as usual come through and have done everything that is possible – that’s humanly possible to provide relief, to provide rescue, and to provide assistance to all those who are in peril.”
The President earlier assured affected communities and the LGUs that aid from the national government is already being mobilized and will be delivered by all available means via land, sea and air. | PND
