Sa kabila ng mga panibagong impormasyon sa pagdinig ng House Quad Committee tungkol sa extrajudicial killings na may kaugnayan sa droga noong nakaraang administrasyon, muling binigyang-diin ng Malacañang na hindi na babalik ang Pilipinas sa International Criminal Court (ICC).

Kasunod ito ng mga testimonya nina dating police officer Royina Garma at dating self-confessed drug lord na si Kerwin Espinosa sa quad comm hearing kamakailan.

“The Philippines will not return to ICC. Based on this, the President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is not expected to change his mind and not refer the Quad-Comm matter to the ICC,” pahayag ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.

Nauna nang sinabi ni Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra, maaaring isaalang-alang ng komite na ipasa ang kanilang records sa executive department offices gaya ng Department of Justice (DOJ), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) o Ombudsman para sa nararapat na imbestigasyon at pagsasakdal.

“It would even be better if all pieces of evidence gathered from the congressional committee hearings are turned over to our own executive agencies for appropriate investigation and prosecution,” saad ni Guevarra.

Nananatili ang posisyon ng administrasyong Marcos Jr. na may kakayahan ang bansa na magsagawa ng sariling imbestigasyon at hindi na kailangan ng interbensyon ng ICC. —VC
