Pinalakas na ‘early warning system’ sa bansa, hangad ng kolaborasyon ng PH-JICA

Nagpahayag ng interes ang Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) para sa isang konsultasyon sa gobyerno ng Pilipinas na layong mas palakasin ang ‘early warning system’ sa gitna ng pananalasa ng mga kalamidad.

Sa isang courtesy call kay Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. nitong Miyerkules, Nobyembre 20, pinuri ni JICA President Dr. Tanaka Akihiko ang “exemplary performance” ng pamahalaan para sa pagtugon sa mga nagdaang bagyo.

“In comparison with many other developing countries and in comparison with many advanced nations, I believe the Filipino management of the floods and typhoons in many ways [is] exemplary,” saad ni Tanaka.

Kumpiyansa ang opisyal na makatutulong sa disaster management ng global community ang pagtutulungan ng Pilipinas at Japan.

Binigyang-diin naman ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. ang kahalagahan ng makabagong teknolohiya para sa early warning systems na tutugon sa tumitinding hamon na dulot ng climate change.

“[Of] great importance are the new technologies that are available. The early warning is becoming more and more important because we have noticed that whereas before, the usual typhoon season, when a storm is maybe two or three days away, even if [it] becomes a storm surge, it slowly develops,” saad ng Pangulo.

“Now, when it is Category 1 Storm, in 24 hours, it’s category five. It seems to be a new phenomenon that we have to deal with. That is why early warning systems, the meteorological warnings [are important],” dagdag nito.

Kaugnay naman nito ay nakikipagtulungan na ang Presidential Communications Office (PCO) sa JICA para sa Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting (DTTB) system na layong gawing ‘fully digitalize’ ang PTV-4 na layong magtatag ng Emergency Warning Broadcast System (EWBS). – AL
