3-time National Basketball Association (NBA) All-Star player Derrick Rose took it to his social media account to announce that after 16 years of playing basketball, he is now officially ending his pro-career.

In a Facebook post, Rose shared how hard it is for him to step away from the game he had loved in his entire life.

He then thanked the Chicago Bulls, his former team, for believing in him and helping the player to win the most valuable player (MVP) award.

“Chicago, you gave me my dreams. From the moment I wore that red jersey, I felt the weight of your love and belief in me. Winning MVP in my hometown will forever be one of the greatest moments of my life,” Rose stated on his post.

The MVP also extended his gratitude to his other former teams including New York Knicks, Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies.

“[T]hank you for believing in me and giving me the chance to keep doing what I love. Each team gave me more than just a jersey; you gave me hope when I needed it most,” Rose added.

The 3-time all star player then stated that he is confident with his decision as he certainly knows that he gave his all to the game.

Meanwhile, he also thanked his fans for the support he received.

“[Y]ou are my everything. Your support has meant the world to me, and I hope I’ve made you proud. I’ll always be a Bull at heart,” said Rose.

He also wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter) a message for the NBA.

Rose started his career in the NBA way back 2008 when he was successfully drafted for the Chicago Bulls and where he made history as the Rookie of the Year joining basketball legends Michael Jordan and Elton Brand as the only Bulls who were able to do so. – VC
