Isinusulong ng Department of Tourism (DOT) ang pagrepaso sa mga regulasyon ng mga airline upang makatulong sa pagpapababa ng pamasahe sa eroplano at makahikayat ng mas maraming Pilipino na bumisita sa mga lokal na destinasyon ng bansa.
Sa ginanap na pagdinig sa Senado ng Committee on Tourism nitong Martes, Pebrero 3, ipinanawagan ni DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco ang mas malawak na transparency mula sa mga airline company, partikular na sa pagsasapubliko ng mga presyo ng ticket.
“The Department of Tourism proposes that there be clear and transparent publication of the just and reasonable rates as required by law, and that the same be under close scrutiny and regulation by the Civil Aeronautics Board. Starting from this baseline, perhaps then we can allay public concerns on rising costs,” saad ni Frasco.
Ayon sa kalihim, maliban sa commercial gains, kaakibat ng responsibilidad ng mga airline sa bansa ang ‘public interest obligations’ sa ilalim ng Section 3 ng RA 11682 na nagbigay ng prangkisa sa mga lokal na airline carriers.
Nakikipagtulungan ngayon ang DOT sa Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), at Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) upang tugunan ang isyu tungkol sa airfare at siguruhing magkaka-ugnay ang regulatory oversight, infrastructure development, at consumer protection.
Humingi na rin ang ahensya ng monthly airline ticket pricing index mula sa CAB upang paigtingin ang transparency, maiwasan ang market shocks, at magmungkahi ng price ceilings sa mga flight ticket.
