Thousands of lives were saved as 290,000 families or nearly 900,000 individuals were preemptively evacuated across MIMAROPA, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Negros Island Region due to the threat of Typhoon Tino, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) reported today.
The DILG commends local government units (LGUs) for acting swiftly by evacuating residents even before Typhoon Tino made landfall, demonstrating strong coordination and preparedness. These proactive efforts significantly minimized casualties and enabled disaster response teams to immediately shift focus to relief, clearing, and recovery operations.
Following the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), in partnership with the DILG and LGUs, continues to lead efforts to deliver timely aid and restore essential services.
Relief and clean-up operations are ongoing in the seven affected regions. LGUs are managing evacuation centers, distributing food and water, and facilitating the gradual restoration of electricity, communication lines, and road access. Cebu Province has declared a state of calamity to fast-track recovery programs. In Bacolod City, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) and the City Engineer’s Office cleared roads blocked by fallen trees, while Dinagat Islands LGU conducted rapid damage assessments.
DILG’s regional and field offices remain on 24-hour monitoring to ensure aid reaches communities swiftly. The Department’s attached agencies – PNP, BFP and BJMP – are assisting in rescue, clearing operations, and safeguarding vulnerable populations.
“The priority now is to restore services, sustain relief operations, and ensure that every affected family receives the help they need. Our teams on the ground are working with local governments around the clock to make sure no one is left behind,” the DILG said.
Based on NDRRMC’s latest monitoring, Typhoon Tino affected 345,000 families or 1.2 million Filipinos in 3,733 barangays, with P53.4 million in aid already distributed. Guided by the President’s order, the Department, together with other agencies and LGUs, will continue to work hand-in-hand to help families and communities recover from the impact of Typhoon Tino. ###
