President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the conferment on Friday of decorations on soldiers from the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) for their accomplishments in anti-insurgency campaign and disaster response.

“First of all, I would like to congratulate the awardees. We have just given the gold crosses, silver crosses, and the bronze cross for their good work,” President Marcos said during the conferment rites in Camp Gen. Guillermo Nakar in Lucena City.

“I’m glad that we are performing. That recognition is because of your good work that you have done. So, congratulations for that,” he added.

The President revealed he had a briefing from the SOLCOM Commander on the general situation in the command’s area of operation. He told the SOLCOM troops they are now tasked to handle territorial defense in the midst of changing geopolitical situation.

SOLCOM however has to reduce the insurgency threat to the barest minimum for the command to fully focus on territorial defense, the President said.

Among the recipients of the Golden Cross Medal were 1Lt. Billy Canacan and 2nd Lt. Green Marc Augusto of the Philippine Army.

For the Silver Cross Medal, the awardees were Maj. Bryann Oria and 1Lt. Merjorie Ballesteros, also from the Army.

TSgt. Noli Lomeda of the Philippine Air Force was the Bronze Cross Medal awardee. (PND)
