Nagpahayag ng pagdadalamhati si Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. kasunod ng nangyaring insidente sa Lapu-Lapu Day Block Party sa Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, noong Sabado, Abril 26, kung saan hindi bababa sa labing-isang katao ang nasawi matapos salpukin ng isang sasakyan.
“I am completely shattered to hear about the terrible incident during a Lapu Lapu Day Block Party in Vancouver, BC, Canada,” pahayag ni Pangulong Marcos Jr.
“On behalf of the Philippine Government and the Filipino people, Liza and I would like to express our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and to the strong and thriving Filipino community in Canada,” dagdag niya.
Tiniyak ng Pangulo ang pakikipag-ugnayan ng Philippine Consulate General sa Vancouver sa mga awtoridad ng Canada upang matiyak ang maayos na imbestigasyon at tulong para sa mga naapektuhan.
“The Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver is working with Canadian authorities to ensure that the incident will be thoroughly investigated, and that the victims and their families are supported and consoled,” saad ng Pangulo.
“We are one with the families of the victims and the Filipino community in Vancouver during this difficult time,” dagdag niya.
Nasa kustodiya na ng Vancouver Police Department (VPD) ang 30-anyos na lalaking drayber ng sasakyan.
Batay sa ulat, nangyari ang insidente bandang alas-8:14 ng gabi sa may East 43rd Avenue at Fraser Street.
Kasalukuyang iniimbestigahan ng Major Crime Section ng VPD ang insidente at nilinaw na hindi terorismo ang motibo nito.
Ayon sa British Columbia’s Filipino community, nag-organisa ng nasabing kaganapan, ang Lapu-Lapu Day Block Party ay isang selebrasyon ng “resistance and resilience.”
Napag-alaman din na may mga ulat ng racist verbal attacks laban sa Black performers sa pagtitipon bago ang nangyaring trahedya. –VC
