Nakatakdang humiling ng subpoena para sa bank records ni Vice President Sara Duterte ang mga impeachment prosecutor ng mababang kapulungan ng Kongreso.
Bahagi ito ng pagpapatibay ng kanilang kaso sa oras na magbukas ang Senate Impeachment Court sa Hunyo 2 ngayong taon.
Kinumpirma ni Manila 3rd District Representative Joel Chua, isa sa tatayong trial prosecutor, na sinisiyasat nila ang mga ligal na paraan upang makuha ang mga nasabing dokumento.
“The impeachment process allows us to complete the evidence to support our case, and that includes subpoenaing financial records if necessary through the Senate impeachment court,” paliwanag ni Chua.
Ayon pa sa mambabatas, pinapayagan naman ng Bank Secrecy Law ang pagbusisi ng bank records sa mga kaso ng impeachment.
“The Bank Secrecy Law provides an exception for impeachment cases, and we intend to use all legal means to secure relevant documents, in addition to the evidence already present, that will aid in the trial,” dagdag niya.
Inalala naman ni Rep. Chua ang impeachment trial ni dating Chief justice Renato Corona noong 2012 kung saan naging mahalagang ebidensya ang bank records upang matanggal ito sa pwesto.
